About Mary O’Brady
Looking for a trusted no-nonsense expert? A knowing mom who’s seen it all? A voice with gravitas for your corporate video? Or a friendly reassuring guide for your next eLearning project? From luxurious warmth to character comedy, Mary’s acting expertise and experience make her a versatile and conversational voice who can deliver your project effectively and with ease.
That comes from years working on stage and on camera in everything from Shakespeare to Neil Simon, daytime drama to improv comedy, from New York to L.A. where she once shared the stage with one of her idols, the late great Jessica Walter. Her voiceover career began with commercials and documentaries in NYC, including a project for Ken and Ric Burns’ Florentine Films and grew to include corporate and medical narration, eLearning, anime and video games.
Mary’s work as a producer, writer and performer for international corporate projects in multiple countries has made her an accomplished storyteller and collaborator who prides herself on attention to detail, calm under pressure, and the ability to pronounce practically anything. It also gave her the opportunity to explore places like Copenhagen, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Morocco and Istanbul.
Animation and video game work spans from a scientific genius saving the cosmos to an archmage destroying it; a wise and witty headmistress Cinderella to a Cockney ex-chorus girl, gambling addict granny who hates children and a witch who eats them – along with a variety of talking objects, animals & insects. Recent favorites include Professor Magnolia in Pokemon Journeys, Baba Yaga in Netflix’s Secret Magic Control Agency, a lovelorn cookie in Bread Barbershop and the half demon sorceress Areelu Vorlesh in Pathfinder 2: Wrath of the Righteous.
Mary can to deliver technical, medical and legal text with conversational warmth, clarity, and even humor. Her live announce and VOG work for awards & corporate events has made her comfortable keeping a large group engaged. (A year on tour with a Florida children’s theatre didn’t hurt either.)
A dual citizen of the U.S and E.U. thanks to her Irish dad, Mary’s voice is truly transatlantic. A passionate traveler and long-time New Yorker, she grew up in the Midwest, and has been to 19 countries and all 50 states (though despite 2 visits, she’s never slept in Alaska). Mary is at ease with accents and dialects from Moscow to Minnesota to the Midlands. She records from two professional home studios, one in NYC and another on Cape Cod where she spent many wonderful summers acting and directing at Chatham’s seaside Monomoy Theatre. A graduate of the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, Mary is happy to offer all repeat clients a complimentary wine consultation! Here’s to working together soon!
